William Lee and Arthur Lee - forgotten patriots … careers of Thomas and Hannah Lee's youngest sons William Lee (1739-1795) and Arthur Lee (1740-1792) show some of the complexities and controversies of the period, which led to the American independence. William Lee was a merchant in London and well introduced in British politics, both at the Court of King George III and in Parliament. In 1773, he was elected to the important office of Sheriff of London and later became an alderman of the city.
