Livingston's youngest son did not succeed in business and even went into
debtor's prison after his liquor excise went bankrupt. His father bailed him
out but cut him off from inheritance in the Livingston Manor estate. Gilbert
did share in the Saratoga patent which his father willed to the Livingston
daughters and younger sons, but his share was administered by his oldest
