Robert
Morris relinquished his position as superintendent of finance in 1784 and
also turned down the position of first secretary of the treasury, which he
was offered in 1787 but he continued in politics, notably as a US Senator
for Pennsylvania.
Leaving
public service, at least as far as the treasury was concerned, enabled
Robert Morris to dedicate his time to the extensive business interests he
