Solomon Loeb came to Cincinnati in 1849 from the city of Worms, in the German Rhineland, where his father was a modest wine merchant. There he joined a distant relative, Abraham Kuhn, who had already succeeded as a dry goods merchant and manufacturer of trousers. Kuhn was an expert in fabrics, who loved their touch and colors. Loeb could not care less but had a knack for figures and was an able salesman. Together the two complementary partners prospered and after marrying each others' sisters and bringing over their relatives from Germany, the founded a mercantile dynasty around the house of Kuhn, Loeb & Company,  ...
