Samuel Colt's heirs and family

… In 1856, after a long life as a bachelor, Samuel Colt finally married Elizabeth, the 30 years old daughter of Reverend William Jarvis of Middletown. They took a six month honeymoon in Europe and upon their return started to build "Armsmear", a palatial estate on Colt's South Meadows property. Samuel and Elizabeth Jarvis Colt had several children, but only one survived childhood, a son named Caldwell Hart Colt. Exhausted by his continuous work at the armory, Samuel Colt died in 1862, at the still young age of 48.
