Anson Phelps jr and Phelps sons-in-law Dodge, James and Stokes

… Anson Greene Phelps was particularly fortunate in the choice of his sons-in-law, who would eventually take over the family business and grow it to new heights. William Earl Dodge (1805-1883) was the first to become a Phelps son-in-law in 1828, when he married Melissa Phelps (1809-1903), the second daughter. In 1829, Elizabeth Phelps (1807-1847), Melissa's older sister married Daniel James (1801-1876), a former country boy from upstate New York, who also became the first Phelps son-in-law to join the business, two years after this marriage.
