Nathaniel Bacon and his lieutenants, Richard Lawrence, Giles Bland, William
Drummond and 'Captain' James Crews cared little for this revolutionary
legislation. As soon as they had their commission they went out and raised a
new army to fight the Indians and sweep them out of Virginia. Meanwhile, the
old governor repudiated the commission and started to raise a new army of
Loyalists to crush the rebellion.
