   English Astors and American Astors - a Transatlantic Family  

the fourth generation after its inception the Astor dynasty suddenly split, as a consequence of the main heir William Waldorf Astor family's expatriation to England. He founded what was to be known as the English Branch of the Astor family. The family of William Astor and Caroline Schermerhorn, their four well married daughters and their son and namesake of the family founder, made up the mainline of the American Astors
