William Henry Aspinwall - millionaire … William Henry Aspinwall resigned as president of the Pacific Mail Steamship Co in 1856 and spend the remaining years of his life travelling and sponsoring his favorite philanthropies, including the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA). During Civil War, he joined John Murray Forbes in a diplomatic mission to England, preventing the launch of the Laird rams, which were designed to wreck the Union Navy.
