line. In 1882 the People’s came under control of Charles Jefferson Harrah,
who had made his fortune building ships, railroads, telegraph lines and
street railways in Brazil, before returning to Philadelphia, from where he
originated.
Harrah
was president of the People’s Passenger Railway for two years, until the
company came under control of the group controlling the Lombard & South
Street line and he was replaced by Howard Augustin Stevenson. ...
